The Willkommen Committee of the New Ulm Chamber recently visited Lakes on 1st to welcome them as a new member.  Lakes on 1st has been owned and operated by Mike Bode for over nine years.  Mike had worked at 3M for 22.5 years and told his wife one day, “I’m opening a restaurant.”  Having been trained to cook by his mother, he thought, “maybe I should get paid for this.”  Apparently many others agree with him, as the experience has been great for both Mike and his customers.  He has many regulars, and he loves his customers and staff.  Lakes on 1st is not only open seven days a week, they also do a lot of catering.  Lakes on 1st is very much a family business.  It is named after Mike’s grandson, Lincoln, and Mike’s daughter not only helped him run the restaurant at the start, she also came up with the entire menu. Lakes has daily specials, including Burger Day on Mondays and Wing Day on Wednesdays.
