KEYC News 12 features New Ulm in ‘staycation’ segment
KEYC Staycation Ideas

Sarah Warmka from the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce recently chatted with KEYC Mankato News 12 to share ‘staycation’ ideas for southern MN.  ‘Staycation’ refers to a vacation one takes within the vicinity of their home, typically involving short day trips to local attractions.

In the KEYC News 12 segment, Sarah offers tips on how to enjoy the “gems in our backyard,” including Hermann Monument and Schell’s Brewery.  She also discussed the historical attractions of the area, such as the Brown County Historical Society, the Wanda Gag House, Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, and the Harkin Store. If you want your summer vacation to be a little educational, Sarah suggests traveling the Minnesota River Valley National Scenic Byway and learning about the U.S.-Dakota War, which has historical locations throughout New Ulm and Mankato.

Along with the history, New Ulm has various festivals to attract visitors to the area. Bavarian Blast, which will be July 18-21st of 2019, is New Ulm’s largest party of the summer, boasting fun contests such as a sauerkraut eating contest and a beer stein holding contest, a 5K/10K, live music, and of course authentic German food and beer.

New Ulm has tons to offer any visitor, so be sure to plan your next ‘staycation’ here!
